Education

Mr. Kilgore was a Patrick Henry Scholar while attending Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with his main focus in Political Science. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree, Mr. Kilgore attended the University of London where he worked towards a Master’s Degree in Political Science. He then returned home to Texas and attended Texas Tech University School of Law, receiving his law degree in 2005. Mr. Kilgore is also a graduate of the Leadership Denton Education program, where he has participated not only as a participant, but also as Co-Chair, Chair –Elect and General Chair

Experience

Mr. Kilgore began his career as an attorney in San Antonio, Texas working primarily as a criminal defense attorney while also handling civil contract disputes. In May of 2006, Mr. Kilgore joined the Denton County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Sean started at the DA’s office working in the Family Violence division, prosecuting mainly Assault Family Violence cases. He was then promoted to Chief Prosecutor of County Criminal Court #2. During his tenure at the DA’s office, he also served as Chief Prosecutor of County Criminal Courts #3 and #4. Mr. Kilgore handled many types of Misdemeanor cases, including DWI, drug possession theft and assault cases. Mr. Kilgore also prosecuted felony cases including felony drug possession and felony intoxication crimes. Mr. Kilgore has participated in over 100 jury trials and argued countless motions to both District and County Judges.

In 2011, Mr. Kilgore left the Denton County District Attorney’s office and joined Kuzmich Law Firm to head up that firm’s Criminal Defense Division. During this time, Mr. Kilgore was instrumental in helping to create the Denton County Veteran’s Treatment Court and participated as one of two court appointed counsel for that court for 7 years from 2011 to 2018.

Mr. Kilgore has defended all types of criminal cases from Frist Degree Felonies to Class C Misdemeanors. He has defended clients in both misdemeanor and felony courts in Denton, Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Cooke and Wise Counties.

Professional Associations and Court Admissions

Mr. Kilgore is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before all Texas State Courts. He is also admitted to practice in the Federal Eastern District of Texas. Mr. Kilgore is also a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, as well as the Denton County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is a past member of National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and has presented at both state-wide and national conferences in the areas of Veteran’s Courts, drug treatment courts, and cooperation between drug treatment providers and the legal community. He is a former member of the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association
